Category: Let's talk
I've been watching on the news the horror and devistation caused by the sunami's in South east Asia following Sunday's earth quake, and the more I watch, the more helpless I feel. I look at people who will have to rebuild their whole lives, people who have lost everything, literally everything. And I wonder if there is anything that can be done. I know that charity is a very personal thing, but there ar countless appeal funds being set up at the moment, and as a community, how would people feel about doing something to raise money for one of these appeals. Maybe set up some sort of contest for which people had to pay to enter, and all the entrance money could go to the disaster appeal funds, people, and children, have lost their lives, children have lost their parents, and parents have lost their children, and small contributions can make a big difference. What does everyone think?
I have already donated money to the British appeal line but would be glad to do more when I next get paid. I would have donated more at the time if I'd had it.
The practicalities of an appeal on the zone would of course be a matter for admin, but I think this proposal would be difficult to implement beecause of time spent on money orders etc. and the fact that admin can't eccept visa debit cards, for example. A much quicker way in the UK is to ring the donations helpline and donate that way using your credit card. I daresay that other countries such as the states have set something similar up. Nice idea though, don't get me wrong.
thanks again for all the donations that you guys have give for the land of south, south east Asia and east Africa.
I did make a credit card donation, I just thought that, as a community, it would have been nice to all get together and make a jesture, smiles
Yeah I completely agree with that. It would be, but I urge people to donate if they can to the places set up to take the money in any case.
A lot of the churches around here are taking up collections for tsunami relief so I'll probably donate to one of them. Plus I go to a catholic school so we'll probably do something since we have a lot of Asian students. I'm still waiting for an e-mail from my friend whose family is from Sri Lanka.
I think this is a great idea, but agree with LL that it's up to admin, and that he might not have the resources to do that, at least, at present. I think it's a great idea, though; it does make you feel helpless upon hearing all this, and like you need/want to do something really badly, I know I do.
